target audience for animated films

for this genre there are many different ways this genre can appeal to the view but depending on the sub genre depends what the target audience is. For Japanese anime the target audience can be a wide range depending on what the film/ show is about if it was a more childish film it can aim to a younger audience but if the film is mature and contains either violence or inappropriate actions then the film is better appealing to adults. for the adult sub genre animated films haft to appeal to the older audience due to the mature content within the film. and for the rest of the sub genres i feel as if they are all aimed at yonger audiences due to the content within for example toy story is a family film but can relate more to the younger audience due to the fact kids love toys as it may have been a big part of their lifestyle as a kid.

the conventions of animation films

conventions of animated films:
in the animated genre there are many sub genres such as: anime which is the Japanese approach to produce great films such as spirited away and has also grown in popularity all over the world, adult animation which is much more suited for adults due to the fact adult humour is used a lot more within the films in shows/films such as: simpsons or family guy, animated children have a much more kid friendly approach to the films mainly based on love stories or friendship this sub genre has impacted millions of childhoods with classics like: snow white, beauty and the beast, incredibles, finding memo, and aladdin, animated musicals this sub genre is very similar to the animated children in terms of story line and characters but contains a lot more music production from singing to dancing for example: frozen, snow white and lion king, and lastly family animations this sub genre allows or has an effect to make a family do things together for example socialise or sing and dance this sub genre also has a lot of humour not to mature but also can appeal to an older audience making the film enjoyable for example: despicable me, toy story or cars.

star wars episode 7 opening analysis

In the opening of star wars episode 7 there are many genre indicators to suggest that the film is a sci fi such as: the costume for the characters consisting of space helmets and space suits, the weapons are very futuristic, the location during the scene (seems to be based on a different planet), the transport with the use of a ship to fly in and out of the planet, and the supernatural powers (the force).
From this scene of star wars there are many questions to be asked such as: where are they, what is the republic after, why is this artefact so important, where do they go after leaving, why kill the man, what will they do to the soldier, why did that one storm trooper stop attacking.
From the opening of star wars we find out that we find out that the villain kylo ren is looking for parts of a map of some sort to look for the legendary Luke sky walker, we also find out that kylo ren is not scared to kill as he kills that old man who was being questioned and we also find out that kylo ren has the power to use the force.
In this opening there are a wide range of effective sounds from the non-diegetic sound to the diegetic sound from a gun for example such as:  when the ship lands the soundtrack is used effectively to show that they are more dominant and feared from the civilians, with the sounds of the blaster it links to the genre indicators of the weapons being futuristic, the screams and yells from the villagers suggest that they are all in pain and are scared and lastly the sound that is used as the kylo ren stops the bullet/beam with the force creates a very scary feeling towards the character and also shows how powerful the man is.

In this opening there are many uses of camera shots and angles such as: right off the bat as they land there us a low angle long shot with this shot it suggests the dominance towards the villagers, there is an establishing shot showing the village and the villagers in this shows how many and how big the area is for them, there are many close ups pf key characters showing emotion and also allowing the characters to speak their dialogue.

There is a lot of use of sound within this opening such as in the beginning there isn’t any sound track but the sound of the civilians panicking creates this tension that suggest that hell will brake lose, but then the opening uses a sound track for a chase scene and from this the sound track creates a much more faster rushed atmosphere to the film and from this it helps suggest that more bad things are about to happen.
There are a wide range of shots and angles used within the train to Busan such as: a crash zoom shot with the use of this shot it creates a lot rush to the film but it also shows the sense of betrayal, there is a lot of uses of the medium over the shoulder shot leading to a close up of the characters running with the use of this it creates a faster approach to the film.

At the start of the film we will have a person on the phone talking to someone, then intensive music starts playing the background the camera changes rapidly to a window everything becomes silence we start hearing foot steps with each step you could hear the wood give way, the door squeaks open and a man looking down a knife on his right hand he moves his head up and the woman starts screaming because the man doesn't have any eyes he starts to charge at her but the camera stays fixed in one location and we see blood flying across the room and the lady screening in pain and terror

location for our film

location of the film- Oxshott heath
reasons for having our film in the location:
- when the area is completely quiet the atmosphere is very spooky giving it a creepy vibe and it also helps indicate our genre choice. especially in the dark.
- the area isn't as populated as most so it is easier to film as we don't haft to wait for people to leave or move out the way and it also means that we wont be disturbing any passerby.
- for chase scenes or jump scares it is very well layed out for us
-for effective shot where we look into the distance and find something moving, can be used alot with this location.
our location for the film within the project truly gave a very chilling vibe to our project with the use of editiing we were able to make the location look even better than planned, with the use of the filter from our camera the location didnt just give a creepy vibe but it gave the film much more mystery to our location and this would link back to the audience by giving more answers but even more questions about our location.

preliminary task g321

sci fi target audience

From looking at the sci fi genre i have discovered that the target audience is aimed at 15- 30 this is because from looking at most sci fi films and their age rating it tends to be rated 15 for most films. one other reason that the target audience is 15-30 is because sci fi films help escape reality so it takes away stress from stressful times allowing the viewer to be put in a whole different world that isn't his/her's but then it is also good to see the different possibilities and thoughts on the futuristic technology.

sci fi conventions

In terms of story line stereo typically sci fi films are based on the future, space, aliens or some sort of infection spreading like a zombie virus. Some good examples would be films such as: star wars, world war z, avatar and star trek. In terms of locations usually sci fi films would be located in space on a whole new planet in the future, or for films for like world war z the location usually is in the present time in cities and when crossing genres with action or fantasy films would be located in cities or well-known places e.g. new York city. For characters usually each film would have a protagonist (typical males) and alongside the hero he would have a few sidekicks with a chance that one of them is also a love interest. In terms of music the sci fi genre usually has a more techno approach to have some of the big senses be very up lifting but to also give the audience a rush or an excited feel to the film.

notting hill opening analysis

In the opening to Notting hill there are many genre indicators that show the film is a rom com such as: the humor tends to be much more mature, the film shows the scenario between the male and female, the location had a very urban environment, it showed the romantic side by showing the bond the two main characters had instantly.

During the opening there were many questions about the film such as: who are the people, will the film have a happy ending, will the male and female get to know each other more, what style will the male approach his love interest.

From this opening we find out that there was three characters a thief and the love interest and during the opening a man tried stealing a book but was stopped by the man who worked there, the man had made jokes and suggestions around the situation before serving the lady waiting, and lastly we find out that there seems to be some interest with the male and female due to the fact of their humor to each other.

The opening of notting hill had the use of no specific sound meaning no music or large use of surroundings and the effect of this was that the film gave a more realistic view to the love story and this would relate back to the target audience by rom coms being very relatable to real life events.

During the opening of the film there was a lot of use of the over the shoulder shot and two shot to show the characters are having a conversation, but there are a lot of close ups to show the importance of some of the characters but also shows dominance from the angles

target audience for romantic comedies

There are many different target audiences with romantic comedies from couples to single young adults. In terms of ages the target audience for rom coms are 20-30 year olds this is because at that age many things that happen during rom coms are very relatable to real life events for example finding your first love, meeting new people or getting married. Meaning it Is targeted at adults, but for genders rom coms are more targeted at women due to sex appeal and attractive men being apart of the story.

conventions of romantic comedy films

In terms of storylines the typical scenario is that a boy meets a girl that he is attracted to, but not forgetting the story usually can finish in a relationship or a happy ending. Usually there is sexual content between some of the characters this would also help appeal to the female side of the target audience. Romantic comedy films are usually set in urban environments where the chances of the two characters encounter are high. And lastly the style of the films often is like weddings with flowers and romantic gestures based for the female character.

abode premiere element 10

Image result for adobe premiere element logo
for my 3 shot film I used abode premiere elements 10 to edit the 3 shot film. from using the software i found it really easy to edit with complex effects and the soft ware is really straight forward to use and thanks to the easy usage i was able to create a very good 3 shot film that played very smoothly with effects that created enough tension and made the film look really good. although there are many things that i didn't really like about the program for example the effects sometimes the effects can either make the film look good or it can simply ruin the film and sometimes while editing when you play it to see how it looks the software tends to be glitch.

3 shot film

there are many strengths with our film such as: our location was very good as it allowed us to get very good shots with the camera, the way the film used the cross cutting was very effective and gave the movie a lot of tension by using the black fade outs and lastly the shots we used to show both the setting and the characters were very effective as we used an establishing shot to show the location, a long two shot to show the characters and lastly the medium over the shoulder shot to show who saying the dialogue.

although there are many weaknesses despite all the strengths such as: we could of included the third actor being me, in terms of editing if we had added more effects to to the film to allow it to flow much better, in terms of camera it would be better if it was more steady.

From this opening there are many questions to be asked by the audience such as: who is the person driving the truck? What is he doing? What did he chuck in the pipe? Where are they? Why is he chasing them?
With the use of soundtrack and diegetic sound there is a lot created from it such as: during the chase scene the music creates more of a fast vibe to the film as they do haft to rush to try and get away and at the start when they first see the man the music is gives the uncomfortable feel due to the high notes and lastly the sound of the car chasings gives a rush to the movie.
In this opening we find out a lot about their location and who lives there also how dangerous it is for them. We find out there is a mysterious man disposing of dead bodies in the pipes but also we find out that these two main characters seems to be out main characters due to the amount of camera time they had.

In the opening there was many shots that stood out such as there was many long shots of the man’s house and long shots of his truck as well as long shots of him deposing g of something to be believed as a body, there was a lot of close ups to show the emotions of the two characters and lastly there was a lot of over the shoulder shots to show the truck chasing them.

From watching the opening scene there are many questions to be asked about this opening scene such as: where are they? Who is the man in black? What does he want? Why did he kill the guy in the pool? Why does the guy have so many body guards? Is he important?
From this opening scene we find out a lot of information such as: there is someone that could be an assassins or a secret agent out to kill all the bad people to stop them from doing bad things, we also find out that the guy in the pool appears to be bad due to the stereo types of bad guys having many body guards and lastly we find out that the guy in black appears to be very important due to the amount of camera time.
During the opening scene there is a very clever use of the sound by having a calm peaceful mood by having no sound just the sound that the characters would hear, and then when the jump attack happens the sound track appears to play to create a very dramatic effect as the action starts, after the dramatic events of the kill a very fast up beat track is played to help give the impression that the killer hast to quickly get away and during the last part the track carries on with the fast past up beat song to show and represent the man had escaped sneakily.
In the opening there are lots of different shots used. From POV shots to established shots, during the start there is an extreme close up of the man’s watch as he gets ready to swim, then there was an over the shoulder shot of the pool over the shoulder of the body guards. expendables 2 opening

In the opening scene of the expendables 2 there are many genre indicators that show it is an action film such as: the guns, the large cars, the explosion, there is hand to hand combat, a lot of violence, the usual unlimited ammo in each gun and one big one is the location of the film it is located in a secret area for the bad guys base.
In this opening there are many questions to be asked such as: who is bad who is good? What are they trying to do? What are the people trying to hide? Where are they? Who are they working for? Are there more people than that?
In this opening we don’t find out to much but we find out that there is a group of expert fighters that are trying to stop someone or another army from doing bad stuff and the way they do that is by fighting them right there. There seems to be 6 main heroes in the movie possibly more.
With the use of sound the sound track is able to create the fast vibe suggesting a chase or a battle of some sort, but the use of the sound is able to tell up what genre the film is with the sounds of guns explosions and vehicles this creates a rush type of mood or suggest that someone is in danger and the heroes need to hurry to reach their objectives.
Due to the fast action within the clip there were many effective clips that support the fast vibe. For example in the chase scene it was like we were driving next those from a long shot looking from the side of the cars. There was also a great use of over the shoulder shots this was effective as this help give the impression as your one of the characters backing up the other.

scream opening analysis

In the opening scene of scream there are many genre indicators that show that the film is a horror such as: the stereotypical phone calls, a young teenager that seems annoying to the audience, an empty house meaning that it is unpopulated and the dialogue of the mysterious man on the phone.
From this opening there are many questions that may be asked by the audience such as: who is this young girl? Who is she talking to? Where could this person be? Where is she? Why is the man continuously calling?
From watching this opening we find out a lot of information. We find out that there is a mysterious man watching over the young lady in the house, as the woman preps for her movie night she continuously gets phone calls, we also find out that he is near her either outside or in her house.
In this opening sound is used cleverly as it starts off completely quiet but as you go further in the dramatic music slowly builds up till the man states ‘I want to know who I’m looking at’ when that was said a sharp high pitch noise was played to shock the audience then it causes a tense mood as anything could either pop out and scare you are any time.

This use of camera shots was really effective during this open with shots like long shots of her walking then staying still looking at the window makes the audience feel as if something is out there or that something is going to pop out of anywhere, or some other shots that made it as if we was the lady looking out the window.
